Barry was raised on Fogo Island on Newfoundland's Northeast Coast. As a child, Barry loved to sketch fishing boats, and hockey goalies. However nothing was unusual about this typical outport kid. Barry loved jigging on stages, playing sports, and all things kids loved to do.

Barry's Art career was established in 2009 when he enrolled in classes with Renown Newfoundland Artist; Ed Roche. " I was kind of intimidated painting with professional artists whom have decades of experience and knowledge under their belt" Barry says, "But today I tend to fit in and gain and share knowledge that I have come to learn."

Many people asked why Barry chooses to use Fogo Island as his subject in most paintings. Barry explains " When you get away from a place you love for so long, you long to be there; as an artist you give a perspective on how you remember or would love to have seen the place".

To date Barry has sold hundreds of prints internationally and sold out of two Limited Editions. Barry says he still has a long ways to go to becoming a well known artist , but he's getting there.

He looks to masters of Newfoundland Art such as Ed Roche, Larry Mahoney, Ben Gillard, Lloyd Pretty and others for inspiration and try to create something not already covered by other artists.

Barry would like to leave viewers with the motivational words a good friend and client of his:

" Never be Astonished or suprised of what people think of you and your work. Grab it for what it's worth and help make the world a better place to live. Always believe you are one of a kind and worth no more than anyone else, but what you produce may be priceless".
